did you get the files uploaded? they all have to be in a top level folder before you import the show. name the folder like this:

bandYYYY-MM-DD.flac16

if it is 16 bit flac files. Are you having a hard time logging in to the archive servers? or what .. let me know what you have done so far and what you can't figure out and we'll go from there.

thanks for responding so quickly!!! I am new to this process and maybe doing something completely wrong, but
here's what i have done.
i converted my files into MKW/SHN format.
Without, Archive pulled up, I click on my Smart FTP icon on my desktop.I dragged my files to the part on Smart that says Name, etc. The files run to (at the top of Smart) audiouploads/archive.org, which took an hour or so. I think i have named them all correctly. after that, the bottom of Smart says "audiouploads - idle." I then click on Archive on my favorites and go to "import concert" and it says there are "no diretories." I wonder am going about this all wrong? Do I need to go from the actual Archive site somehow or what? I just don't know.
Thanks alot.
daniel

You need to create a new folder. After logging in, right-click on audio-uploads.archive.org (in the upper left) Right Click-Create a new folder with the name of your show. Once you create this folder, don't change the name of it.
(Kimock2006-03-20.shnf for example)...After naming it, double-click it to open the folder. This should open a parent directory over to the right. Dump your files there and you'll be golden..

Hi again Daniel, as I mentioned in email, are you packaging up the show as directed, such as described in the examples here?
http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=NamingStandards
It won't work unless you have things arranged like that. Get it all totally ready on your PC to go up *as a fileset*, then just send it as the directory with all the proper files inside it.

i think i've got it. i am now waiting on the MD5 checksums, etc. I have done the set list, and the Band info, etc has been showed. Question though, under Audio Disc/Data Disc it says "12" obviously not right. what should i do about this?
Plus, how long does it take for the show to actually show up? thanks a whole lot!!!!!!!!!!

are logging into the Archive.org server first? Once you log in you should see audio-uploads@archive.org to the left side under folders. Do you see that? That is what you need to right-click on to create a new folder.

hello everyone again. i made it through alot of steps over the past week, but when i finally did my MD5 checks, they all failed and my files were missing.
So, i've had to start over. For some dang on reason, i am now having trouble with step 1, ie., just converting a file to SHN/Flac.
So, I have a live show on CD. I need to convert it to FLAC. I have Flac Frontend downloaded and TRader's Little Helper. Everytime I try to drag and drop they both say, "not a WAV file." HOW CAN I CONVERT THIS CD INTO WAV AND THEN INTO FLAC IN ORDER TO TRANSFER TO FTP>ARCHIVE???? I THINK@@@!!! I can handle it from there will see

If the only source is an audio CD like you would play in a CD player, to get the music as .wav files onto a hard drive you will have to do "digital audio extraction", aka DAE. This is not simple drag and drop like you would do for a data CD, and requires extraction software. Check out this page, http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=SeedingGuidelines
especially this part:
http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=SeedingGuidelines#transfer
"From an existing CD"

Some people call it "ripping" the CD.

First off I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that sent posts back to me to help with getting an upload on to Archive, especially Diana Hamilton, for putting up with my continous questions.
I do have a question though, when I look at the show i uploaded, it says "12 audio discs." How can I correct this? Also, when you punch in Lost Ridge Band in the search bar, they do not come up, but they do show up when you browse the bands. Lastly, if anyone is interested in some High Energy Bluegrass from the Mountains of North Carolina, check out Lost Ridge Band. They have played with Doc Watson and have some wonderful original tunes.
Again thanks alot to everyone.

Nice banjo there, and 2 shows now already, thanks! :)
http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?cat=Lost%20Ridge%20Band

It can take a bit for the search engine to catch up to the browsable LMA listings.

Typos on the details pages can be edited by you, the uploader. You should see an edit link on the web page for the show. Just change the disc field to the correct thing and click the update button.
